By developing this informed practice, we provide children with tools to develop a strong brain architecture to manage challenges that may arise and effective ways to reduce stress levels. Creating predictable environments provide children with the tools, resilience and a sense of empowerment to build their social and emotional learning. The cumulative impact of positive experiences assists children to develop mastery in constructing and/or reconstructing their self-narratives, while reflecting in healthy ways on past and present experiences.
Educators will use the theories and perspectives described to research alongside the children to gain a deep understanding of the child’s strengths, learn about their attachments in their world and work towards forming relationships with a focus on ‘tipping the scales’ to assist children in developing a strong sense of self.

Rituals are imperative to establishing a sense of belonging and place thus enabling a safe, warm, nurturing environment where children make social connections and learn together. This aligns with EYLF Practice, pg. 16 which acknowledges thatplaces and spaces that have their own purposes, expectations and ways for children to engage. The traditions and practices of our centre forge pathways of opportunities for children to establish a sense of identity, wellbeing, and security as they engage in mindful rituals.

Researching children’s internal motivators for play, learning, engagement and behaviour with an alternative lens will guide our image of the child to better understand their motivators for being, belonging and becoming. The frameworks of Phoenix Cups Theory and Piaget (1962) Schemas of Action will guide and inform our research and practice as a collective.

Through our deep understanding of the children’s learning, an evolving opportunity arises for the children to develop knowledge of their own rights, what these look like and how they can use the knowledge gained to interact with the world around them. This work is to provide the children space to take ownership of their rights and using their voices to share what they know with other children, educators and families.
